Yup they have closed up. To renew just apply direct to the CAA having filled out SRG???? form (its on their website and easy enough to find on the UAV section) and attaching a copy of your logs. Simples.
Biggest tip I can give you is that by doing this you are not in the drone business. You are a photographer/videographer full stop. The drone is merely a tool and it is the data that matters ie the imagery. No one will really care too much if you are using x machine or y but they will want to...
4 rapid white lights normally means IMU error. This can be caused by excessive vibration. Of course it could be the IMU being faulty too. Not easy but if you can borrow another IMU this might help you trouble shoot.

Look into the health and safety side of cutting CF. Its not nice stuff. If you do get dust on your hand always wash off with COLD water rather than hot as this will keep your pores closed. Cold water with a thick mix of detergent is what I have found best. The detergent sticks to dust and helps...
It is something like that I think. The other option is to use a different channel on the A2 ie not the gear. Yes you wont get the automatic gear as a result but by putting in a failsafe you will still have the gear deploying in an unplanned return to home.
