4 Cell Versus 3 Cell

I have my F450 on the way and should get it next week. My intent is to use 4 cell 3000mah packs that I already have a number of. In my reading I see that I need to use the 8" props with the 4 cell batteries. It looks to me that most are using 3 cells? Is there a disadvantage to the use of 4 cells?

I would go with 3cel and use the Graupner Eprops 10x5's. Get a balancer and you will have a very smooth setup. I experimented with different props and for a 450 this is a great combo.

I use the same Eprops on the 550 and 3cels on that as well. You can go to as much as a 6000 Lipo on the 450 and you get a lot of flight time even with a Gopro hooked up 10-12 minutes for me with leg extensions as well.

I like 4s as it spins the prop faster which makes jello disappear and do better in wind. You can use 10" graupners on 4s since they are thinner props than the stock ones. This has been beaten to death on this forum, look around a bit and you will see the same responses all over. Since you have 4s batteries, i would say thats your answer right there.

There is a relationship between the KV rating of your motor - KV tells you how fast the motor spins for every Volt you apply - the Cell count of your LiPo's and the blades you can use. The trick is to find the right combination...but as Iris sayed, there are hundreds of threads on this forum.
