esc flashing for MT-3506 motors

I'm wanting to persevere with my MT-3506 motors, but having timing issues with the flyfun 30a esc's i'm currently using.

So, has anyone got some experience they can share with flashing esc's with the "wii-esc" code?

I now have some hobbyking F-30A esc's, an AVR programmer and AVRStudio 6.

SimonK has suggested that his code for these esc's may work, but there could still be timing issues, so suggested trying the wii-esc "mystery20A-nFET" code.

I've had a look at the wii-esc site, but to be honest it's not making much sense to me - could anyone who has used this code offer a quick 'idiot's' guide to accessing it, prep'ing it for use and flashing?

Also, if anyone has has success with the simonk "bs_nfet.hex" code and these motors i'd be interested in hearing about it.

well, in answer to my own question, HERE's a link to a topic on openpilot which deals with this very issue, including a tweaked version of the wii-esc code for hobbyking F-30's - especially for MT3506 and the like.

planning to reflash and test later today.

Quick update on this (just incase anyone is interested).

The SimonK RapidESC firmware was better than stock firmware, but very rapid input had the esc's resetting - but to a lesser extent than with stock firmware.

Should point out that the SimonK firmware with the smaller of the two quadcoptersUK torxpower motors (on the bench) seems fine - very smooth and quiet.

Reflashed the HobbyKing F-30's with the falco-wii-esc firmware and the bench test with the Tiger 3506's seems very positive. With very rapid (up/down) throttle input the esc's seem to be holding timing and i haven't been able to force a reset.

They 'sound' buttery smooth without props and with graupner elektro 10's there's not the obvious 'cogging' sound under load. Need to test with an 11 later.

So far it's all been bench tests - an MT3506 with a graupner 10 mounted on a plank.

I've just finished a wkm/TBS Discovery conversion, which has these motors and the flashed F-30's - hope to get a chance to fly later in the week.

As an aside - i've just found that the new HobbyKing UK warehouse has stock of these esc's (they're out of stock in HK) so if anyone else is looking to have a go at this get in quick, at $9ish these esc's are a steal.

I'll post up some clips when i get chance.

Pling the Simonk firmware does not work with those motors I believe T-Motor have some that do work now.

Here's a short clip showing success with MT3506's with F-30 esc's and falco-wii-esc code.

Previously, a single, fast flick of the sticks with stock esc firmware would cause the 'cogging' sound, loss of timing and motor stop.

I could get it to fail on commend each and every time i tried.

So far (two packs hovering around the garden) flicking the sticks to try and cause a loss of timing and i've not had any apparent issues.

Sounds much better too.
