DJI S800 - standing in the dark with 15" propellers

Hello

I will get my DJI S800 (hopefully) this week, and as I usual, I tried to get spare propellers....just in case.

First step was: getting information on what props I need....

The spare part list from DJI says: 15'Propeller CCW - S8010201A
15'Propeller CW - S8010201B

Normally props are defined like: 15x4 , where 15 is the prop diameter and 4 is the pitch. Neither the manual nor the sparepart list tell me the pich.

...but....I got a lot of useful information from the DJI website:

"All the carbon fiber propellers of S800 have been tested for its balance and strictly selected. The carbon fiber propellers have the characteristic of exquisite appearance, light weight, high efficiency, and high strength and so on.

So...basically I am looking now for 15" props with an "exquisite apperance"....

Next step was to search for the spare part number on Mama Google. My result was:

Your search - DJI S8010201B - did not match any documents.

The only thing I could find was a website in SWISSERLAND:

http://www.bernroitner.ch/online-shop/index.php/online-shop/product/view/11/45

But now comes the best part: Price = 56,35 Swiss Franks which is 59,40 US Dollars....PER PIECE...so a whole set of 6 would sum up to 356,40 US Dollars.

.....and finally....after having a sharper look on how the props are mounted, it looks like DJI have "invented" a system which apperantely is not compatible to any other prop makes.

Since I live in Austria and my Google gives me differen results than beeing in the US, I would really like someone to shed some light on this....

I am glad for any input...

Best regards

Chris

Hi Chris,

your best chance concerning props for the s800 is with DJI at the moment. I trashed 4 of my six props of the s800 1.5 months ago and there was no way of getting any since none of the vendors are in stock with them. So i had to wait for DJI to first fulfill most of their preorders and than they sent me extra 6 props.

There are similar ones out there like http://www.smartdrones.de/collections/propellers although i think to big.

and

http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo=goods_details.dwt&goodsid=747&productname= but have more pitch.

Hi Boris

Thanx for the reply....but your alternatives are quiet pricy too.....

Got to have "Pampers" on when flying with this blades...:black_eyed:

Just after a short search on the net, I found this:

http://mikrokopter.altigator.com/apc-thin-electric-prop-15x4-e-propeller-p-40563.html

http://mikrokopter.altigator.com/apc-thin-electric-prop-15x4-ep-propeller-p-40564.html

This prices are a different kind of music...

The pich on this blades is 4" which should be fine. The only problem would be mounting the props, since the have a "traditional" mounting hole.
Once I have the rig here and can have a closer look, I might try to get adapters machined in my workshop:

if you compare what you pay for a MK Hexa XL or Cinestar 6 this 2K turns into sort of good invest instead an rip off. Stock MK 12"4,5 CFK Props are 40 Euro each as well. The S800 Props are real good made and no 15$ fake one layer CFK ones.

I don't like these propellers: too heavy so you can't get smooth regulation.
Even, the are not well balanced.
Ok you may change that but not the weight.

Thanx for your advice...might have saved me some wasted $$....but is there something you could advice. I guess if you were not happy with them you would have replaced them with something more suitable...

Don't know why I feel the need to get mixed up in this, but you are paying 2k for a frame... and ESCs... and Motors... and Props... with all wiring done, plug and play. Are there any comparable 800mm ARTF at that price? Not trying to be confrontational, I'm genuinely curious if there is anything comparable.

Yes, with XOAR, not heavy, very well balanced ..... but more expensive.

I went to their website website:
http://www.xoarintl.com/rc-propellers/electric-props/PJP-Precision-Pair/#spec

...and saw that the their carbon blades go only up to 13"x6.5 which I guess is to small. Could you please be more specific on which blades you used.

The interesting thing I saw on their website was the video with the wooden blades on the OM-Copter...
...here in more detail:

http://vimeo.com/30255067

...the question is: why not wooden propellers.....?

I guess there is absolutely nothing wrong with the deal on the S800 copter itself...BUT the price for the blades, at least that ones I found and mentioned earlier, are NOT a good deal. It's like with printers....you get the hell of a printer for almost no money....then you are hooked to a specific brand and start buying liquid gold, which they call ink. Not the best comparison, but you get the idea....
