Mikrokopter Cinestar 8 to X8

Hey guys,

I've built mt CineStar 6 and now building up CineStar 8 frame with CS 360 mount. The biggest problem with big Okto birds is, it's hard to do fast forward flight since the booms get into the video frame when a wide angle lens is used. So, I'll convert it to a coaxial octo.

I have been a long time X8 user, so I'm happy with the overall stability of this config. Landing gear is mounted on CS360 gimbal, so the bottom props doesn't touch the legs even 14" prop is installed.

Has anyone tried X8 with Cinestar 8 ? I'll post my findings and some pics after I finish the build. And it will be much easier to transport!

I've done a CS6 as a Y6. It works great. BUT, since the lower motors are even closer to the camera, I think you would have worse problems getting them in the frame with a 360 mount.
I don't have a 360 mount on mine.

Unluckly, it is not possible to build a xy8 setup with cinestar 8 center plates.

The build is almost finished. i will post pictures about the setup soon.

if you have the cinestar 6 use that frame for the XY8. now you have 120 deg FOV. i have this with 14" props and they dont show up with my nex at 18mm. If you are doing forward flight AND you rotate the gimbal you will see props though. but most fast forward shots dont require the gimbal to pan much if at all.

What I would do if your really looking to get into this type of flying is buy a Single Rotor helicopter. MRs arent really designed to be fast flight machines, and I know because I wanted to do this, but atlast I have come to grips with the fact that there are different tools for each situation, an instead of spending hours of time trying to redifine something, just why not buy the tool to actually achieve this method of flight.

If you want I also have something like this for sale.

Logo 600 3D Helicopter this is the best its going to get ask around, you will see im telling the truth.

I have a bunch of helis, but im keeping most of my helis is in mint condition, and BNF form. The only reason I thinking about selling it is because I have to many helis.

Hey guys,

Let me update about this process. I converted CS8 into X8 form, I flew it for a while and now converted it back to the flat Octo configuration.

Let me summarize the pros and cons of each platform:

* Main issue was efficiency in my case. X8 Octo flies %25 less time than flat Octo.
* 360 CS Gimbal and view problem: It turned out to be that, bottom props are most of the time in the view of camera when 360 gimbal is used. With flat octo, I have less problems about this.
* X8 was much muhc easier to transport. I'm having hard time to carry big CS8 in my station wagon car.
* Orientation is much easier with X8 configuration.

So, if have enough back space in your car to carry Cinestar, no need to convert it to X8 configuration.
