Tau Labs Hoverthings VC 450 FPV and HT FPV build

Hi guys,

I am getting started with an CC Build and have a couple questions. Sorry for trying the easy way but its 4 in the morning and in my tiredness and searching for one hour on the OP site i just didnt get all the answers.

I am planning to get one of the Hoverthings frame which are not in stock at the moment or if one of you has a similar FPV frame please advice !

General question.

I want to use one of my Jeti Rmk2 Receiver so simple PPM in. Will I have any issue with this ? Couldnt really find any description were i connect the PPM in, To main or Flexi port or to the standard ports for the traditional receivers !
I am either going to use some axis for my setup or take some Keda from the Hoverthings store. Any recommendation on the OP front which ESCs i should use. I am not asking this concerning the specs of the motors just what works best with
CC. I have some DYS and turnigy suitable for those motors in the shelve or do you guys recommend straight away to get some simonk flashed escs for CC ?

Xbee: have some arround will hook them up straight away: I am aware of this :

CC ----------- Sparkfun
Gnd (Black) ----------- Gnd
5v (Red) ----------- 5v
Tx (Blue) ---------- Din
Rx (Orange) ----------- Dout

But any diagram which is which on the on the jst connector or on which side is GND placed ?

Edit: Didnt have the original Jst cable anymore now I found it :) so i guess black red as it should be ?

Thanks

Boris

One more what is this all about : How can i tell if my board is affected ?

Thanks

Boris

December 2011: A hardware component in the latest batch (none have been delivered to distros or users yet) is defective and the ALL CCs have to be reworked. (We would like to avoid our end users having to find this problem and send it back) So no ETA for a release at this time.

When did you buy your board?
No defectives ones were shipped, they were all reworked

Best place to get technical answers is on the op forums

I'm not sure on the ppm input, have never used it

Hey Mat, must have gotten the board some time in the late summer. Device ID is 401. Still didnt go to bed loosing it with Xbee. These things if not configured from beginning always trouble :)

Okay thanks to Denny I got a new CC board and Danker is sending me another one for the one burned.

Since i am going to have two board and i friend of mine is also getting into multis I am going to build two birds right away.

Two different frame, both seem to be good options when it comes to FPV.

http://www.eyefly.info/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=50 and I think there is a bigger one coming out that i might consider

and I am trying to get my hand on the new hoverhings.com FPV frame.

Ordered ESCs from Abusemark preflashed with simonks firmware:

http://abusemark.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=27
got the 30A right away although overkill but dimension are the same as 20A weight difference around 3 grams so no big difference.

Gonna use AXi 2217/20 on the hoverthing frame props not sure yet.

Hope Ill have all the parts together soon to show the builds coming along.

Weight Calculation:

Frame VC450
Rapid ESCs
AXI 2217/20
Gopro
CC Board
Bluetooth Board
4x Graupber 11 x 5

Total 956g

Extras:

EZUHF Receiver 18g
2x Atennas ?g
lawman 2.4ghz 1000 MW 20g
EZOSD 10g
EZOSD Current Ssenor ?g
2.4 GHz Skew-Planar Wheel Whip Antenna ?g

Total: 956 + 18 + 20 +10 = 1004g

Full motor cables are still on the axis when I took the weight so with the missing weight of the listed extra the setup will still be around 1KG.

This lipo pack could be interesting:

http://www.maxamps.com/Lipo-5450-148-Pack.htm

467g

Aimed at total 1467g
