DJI Data Link

I just activated my DJI Data Link with View and One Click Waypoint for my WKM. It was not the simplest of procedures and hopefully they will improve the system in the future. I will say that the GPS was very accurate and though is was dark, I was tempted to fly with the google map on my screen. But in the end, I am a woosie, and I am going to wait until tomorrow until I have a clear field to play with. After that, I will do a lot of playing day and night. You have all seen the DJI video shot at night with the One Click waypoints.

If not it is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7lBm0Nh9ido

I was impressed with the results. One of the things that also impressed me was the ability to control the Multi from ~10K from the Ground Station using the 900mHz 1 watt transmitter. You can use a Joy Stick or a Game Controller. The 2.4gHz range is limited to ~3K and it only has one Can Bus connection. More posts to come.

That is a question that I have asked DJI and have not received an answer back yet. I will be field testing in the next few days so I guess I will find out then. I have a wireless USB card for my laptops so I am ok either way, but would rather not have to take it with me to the field and it would be a major expense for others if that were the case.

You basically need a 3g phone with you for data. My experience is solely based on the Ace One Waypoint but the software seems the same. Datalink is the same Xtend 900MHz package.

You can easily link your Iphone to your computer and use the web thru that. Iphone hooks up thru blutooth or usb-cable.

Unfortunately, AT&T and Verizon do not allow tethering an iPhone or another web enabled phone to the computer for web access in the US. I agree why do we have to pay twice for the same access.

No need 3g card at all. You just need to load the map at home online, zoom in the place where you are going to fly, then go to the field. GCS will go to offline mode and use the cache in your pc.

BTW, the datalink you can have are 900Mhz and 2.4G whichever you like. Size is much smaller and compact than the Ace Waypoint datalink.

Well my Waypoint MAP goes allways back to China if I have to reboot or something. And sometimes I have to. Also If I change locations I need to refresh the map. So yes you need internet.

Not sure that's right. I know that AT&T will let you tether wirelessly on an iPhone. Not sure about other devices. There is a charge, of course, but it's only 30/month compared to the $60/month for a dedicated 3G card.

Kilby, you are right and ATT did modify their plans. However, I would have to change my unlimited date plan to a 4 gig plan. I just had to do this on my wireless card. I was unlimited and was capped at 5 gigs. I changed to a 5 gig plan with 4G and the charge for each gig over 5 is only $10.

That is true but you need to know where you are going to be flying and be able to load the map for that location.

As long as your phone has a data plan, use PDAnet ( http://junefabrics.com/iphone/index.php ) to connect your laptop to the net through the phone, your service provider will never know the difference. I have Sprint which doesn't limit data on either phones or 3G so I'll be turning in my Wifi hotspot once the contract is up and going through my new phone that can do 3G or 4G.

On another topic I just got the data link with Click and Go waypoint software setup on the CineStar 6. If it weren't for all the trees around here I'd already have tried it out but that will have to wait until Saturday morning when I can get out to a big open field for the first attempt. I don't want anything between the ground station and CS6 but open air until I fully underdstand how the GS works and most importantly how to tell the WKM what height I want it to fly at.
