CX4 WooKong GPS Problems, plus Spektrum DX8 Failsafe settings.

I recently finished building a CX4 with WooKong M. In attitude mode it flies really well. However, whenever I switch on GPS it starts moving in an anti clockwise direction, making larger and larger circles in the air.
It tends to go faster and faster too so I have to use the sticks to regain control. The Autopilot settings are basically default with only a small tweak (120%) on Pitch and Roll.

The other issue I have is trying to setup the Come Home and Auto Land feature through my Spektrum DX8 Radio. I know it CAN be done because I've seen some videos on YouTube. I just need to know HOW to do it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't tell you exactly how to do it, but I'll get you more or less there! Plug the heli into the PC and fire up the DJI assistant. Power up the heli and the transmitter. On the assistant, you need to be in the TX cali menu, at the bottom you will see "3. Control mode switch" This is where the settings are made. Now you need to set the switch on the transmitter to control the gps, atti and fail safe options, this is done on the transmitter...that's where I sign out!!

With regards to the GPS, did you have full GPS lock before flying? ie no blinking red lights?

I do know that not all Spektrum receivers will work. They have to support Preset Failsafe. I know the AR8000 will. Most of the 7000 series won't.

NYV, how far is your GPS away from the IMU ? You know that one of the disturbers for the GPS is the IMU ? Effecting not only the GPS lockdown but also the compass in the GPS modul.

is the arrow on the GPS facing forward ? Looks like it is facing the rear on the pics ? The arrow is supposed to point forwards .

Regards failsafe set up on the DX8 , you have to first normally bind the rx to the radio , then adjust travel to make sure the bar is in Failsafe(blue) and then adjust throttle travel so it is just below halfway .
Then put the bind plug in the rx and power up the Rx ,, it will be flashing ... Now remove the bind plug the rx will still be flashing and then switch on the DX8 with the bind button pressed .. This will set the failsafe values.
Now set up travel adjust to get the 3 way switch going from Manual / Atti / Gps Atti and put back throttle travel to normal and when you have done this switch off radio and you should see the slider move to failsafe and throttle bar move to where you set it , if it does this you have successfully set up the failsafe values .

GPS module is 10cm behind and 6cm above the IMU. i.e., the IMU is mounted exactly 4cm above the centre of gravity. The GPS is mounted on the outer shell towards the rear of the CX4.

Hi Geoff. Thanks heaps. I hope I get time to try this before heading off to India on Monday (with CX4 in my luggage). It would make 100% more sense to see this performed on a video clip. My depth of knowledge around radios
and receivers is very limited, but I could follow an instruction video in a heart beat.
The GPS arrow is definitely facing forwards. The arrow faces the front and the black cable for the GPS also exits towards the front.

It would be really nice if WKM would allow you to read out the data from the gyros and compass just to test what is going on and if the placement of components are affecting them. Like we were used to it from MK.

did you have any luck sorting out the circling issue in GPS mode? I am getting exactly the same, steadily widening circle, tweaking the COG and gain settings doesnt really have much or any affect.

Sadly no. I wrote an email to DJI expressing my frustration weeks ago but no response. Of interest is that the CX4 was doing the anti-clockwise circles in NZ, but without changing a single setting,
it performed very well in India??? Figure that out!
I currently have an ADX3 HL with a recently installed Wookong. It immediately exhibits the exact same behavior whenever I switch to GPS mode. Ant-iclockwise circles, getting bigger and bigger,
faster and faster. It's super frustrating because we know for certain GPS works fine in NZ. I gave DJI the example that I had just driven from my home town ChCh to Nelson (340km) in torrential rain
and my iPhone GPS running TomTom never dropped connection once. So, as far as I'm concerned, there can be no excuses and many Wookong customers in NZ/Australia and other countries
would like this fixed.

oh bugger...I am also in NZ, sounds like potentially we might have a country wide issue? It goes anticlockwise for me as well. I saw on another post about a known issue with satellites in Brazil, which MK managed to sort a fix for - http://www.multirotorforums.com/archive/index.php/t-1327.html? .

I'll try re-doing the compass calibration, I've also emailed DJI support but seems like might be out of luck there....
