I just knocked this drawing up in 10 minutes at lunch time, I was lying in bed last night thinking of a new multi rotor design...sad I know!

All gubbins would be housed between the 2 rings, so quite streamlined...

your idea is pretty similar to what windhorny described to me but now that i'm looking at it, the design doubles the swept area of the frame that each prop effects. each prop would be overflying two frame members with each revolution so if that is a source of vibration, you'd be doubling it.
on the other hand, circles transmit vibration much differently than straight members so it may not matter. there was a bike design in the USA Today recently with a circular rear frame that supposedly dissipated vibration that would otherwise have been felt by the rider in traditional frames (I haven't been able to find it online, go figure) so maybe it's worth trying.

Yes, that bike idea is quite funky!

I expect the round frame could be slimmed down between the motors to make less surface area, maybe just wide enough for an esc to be mounted there.
