RED EPIC M flies on CineStar 8

Been working on this for a while, test flight finally happened today. Very excited to add this combo to the arsenal!

Note the Top mounted camera gimbal, a good way to make a very compact camera mount

EDIT- forgot to mention the footage from the EPIC is raw off the camera, no stabilization etc.

Tabb, very cool. How much throttle in reserve did you have? Sounded a bit like you were past mid throttle for hover. I tried lifting a dslr in my Hexa that was a little underpowered recently and had to get to about 65% throttle to hover and yours looked and sounded similar.

Hey Stacky, I would need to look at the data log but she still had plenty of power. Felt like about 50% or so on the stick. These multi rotors tolerate being severely weighed down much better then single rotors!

Great looking footage Tabb, can't wait to see longer continuous streams from that setup. Are you and Jeff Scholl officially working with qc.us? just wondering.

That is lovely, probably the most expensive aerial video platform I have ever seen, and it looks perfectly stable as well...I'll have to keep saving the pennies, or win that euromillions lottery on Friday!

12" props with the qc motors?

Thats very cool Tabb. Cant wait to see some great footage out of that setup. The reds are amazing cameras. How did the extra weight of the Red feel when flying in terms of smoothness and stability. I bet it is a little slower to change direction than a dslr.

Is the gimbal something you designed? Did you base it on something already available?
I have no need for the Epic yet, but would love to know where or how to make one if the opportunity arises!

Very nice footage!!

Felipe,

The gimbal is designed and manufactured by my compnay FreeFly Systems. FreeFly has been making products for a long time for us to use internally in the film industry. Only recently did we decide to commercialize our designs.

Stacky, She felt very docile in the air with the RED on board! Definitely a bit slower then when the Gh2 is onboard.

Bartman, Yes my company FreeFly Systems is working with QC.us We are designing and manufacturing products for the multi rotor world using techniques and designs we have been using internally for quite some time in the cinema industry. This was with 14" props on the QC motors

Gunter, Save me some $ if you do win Euromillions, I have none left!

Best,

Tabb
