Futaba Transmitter Battery Alternative

I have 2 Futaba transmitters the 8FG and the 14SG

In the 8fg I use a simple 7.2V lipo, however the battery that comes with the 14sg is a 6v Ni-MH battery.
It is a 6v 1800 mA Ni-MH (Futaba HT5F1800B) which says the charging rate is 170mA - 15 hrs (JR connection)..
Now first off I have learned a lot regarding charging lipos, but not Ni-Mh
Is there any hard fast rules for this kind of battery, also they do seem very expensive, (not to mention quite hard to find) I am just wondering if the following could be used as a cheap replacement?

On the actual charging unit that comes with the 14SG there is a mains plug that says 4.8-6v 600 mAh

Would this be a safe alternative, or can anyone see any problem anywhere..

Here is a picture of the original battery.

Mr take no prisoners!
On my 14SG I mostly use the standard pack, gives many hours of flying from a charge but I have one of the HK LiFe packs in the Tx case just in case for emergencies if I am having a long flying day, pretty rare to need it though.

The LiFe packs must be charged externally to the transmitter though.
