TBS Discovery

I'm looking for some discussion about the TBS Discovery.

I am currently flying an F-550 and before I get too much more in depth with this beast (by purchasing legs, gimbal, FPV gear, etc) I thought I'd get some feedback about the TBS Discovery. My ultimate goal is FPV flying which is what the TBS Discovery was made for but I'm not so sure it would be worth loosing out on the lifting capacity/capabilities of the F-550.

So a couple of questions for you Disco pilots:

1. I understand that the CORE is the Power supply unit but is it required? I'd like to use EzOSD and not the stock TBS OSD so would it be necessary to have the core then?

2. Is the CORE required to use all of the on-board soldering points?

3. The price of the plates for the TBS Discovery is almost double of an F-550 set, can I assume that it is stronger, thicker, better?

Any other comments/feedback about the TBS Disco would be helpful too...

Thanks!

Hi bonafide, best place to ask your questions and read regarding TBS disco is probably at the official forum:-

1. It is not absolutely necessary but good advice would be to get it pre-installed. It will provide you with clean (low noise) either 12 volts or 5 volts. You do not have to activate the on board OSD if not required.
2. No not all just regulated around where the core is located, such as power for your 12v FPV camera etc.
3. That’s debatable whether it’s better but it is made from (according to Trappy) FR4, more expensive and better material than G-10, FR4 is flame retardant.
