What is (a) Bec?

What is it? I've read in many places that one is required, and the general group either knows exactly what it is and what to do with it, or they just briefly mention it. They seem to be used in coordination with the NAZA flight controller, and I know it has something to do with power. It also has a USB, and I know that the NAZA supports software manipulation. So: What does it do and will I need to buy one separately if I buy a NAZA controller?

Thanks for your time. This thing has been driving me nuts!

BEC Battery Eliminator Circuit Basically reduces voltage, typically in our usage to 5V. Castle Creations and several others make BEC's that can have the voltage adjusted through software.

If you buy the Naza, as mentioned it is included with the unit, no need to buy another one. It picks up power from the power rail and puts a regulated voltage to the Naza and the receiver via the naza.
