National Drone Racing Championships on Governors Island in New York City August 5-7, 2016. This will be the first nationally televised drone racing event to date and the start of launching Drone racing into the major leagues. To tell us more about this awesome news, we had the pleasure of talking with Sahand Barati, CEO of IDRA. Sahand spent over 45 minutes with us talking about the IDRA, Drone Racing in the USA and around the world, as well as a lot of background information on IDRA, Rotorsports and the deal with ESPN.

Also in this episode, Petr discovered a problem with the new firmware for the DJI Phantom 4 as well as the Inspire with regards to battery power and flying in the wind.  The firmware will reduce the amount of power to the motors when the battery level drops below 50%, and when flying in windy conditions, this can leave you without enough power to return to where to took off. Petr explains what happened to him and gives some tips on how to avoid it from happening to you

    Great info on drone racing!
Could you do a comparison and also what to look for in FPV goggles?
What is the best bang for buck? What kind of goggles are the best for racing?

    Keep up the good work.
P.S maybe you could also comment on the quality issues people have been reporting on the Phantom 4 drone gimbals?

(Is Petr one of the lucky ones that got one that does not have this issue?)

    Kind Regards
    Louis

Thank you Louis, appreciate your comment. I have not personally experienced any issues with my P4 gimbal, so I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. Did they exchange the second one for you?

      • Louis - April 22, 2016 at 4:25 AM

        Yes he exchanged a few.
On the third, the firmware update caused the problem again. It seems more power was used on the gimble.
The final one 4th worked fine. But it is a bit worrying form a quality perspective. If you have to sell it on and the Gimble is making strange noises I don’t think it will be good for second hand value. It looks like it does not impact functionality but worrying all the same. Maybe it was just a bad batch?
